Water is the lifeblood of global agriculture, fueling the crops and livestock that sustain us. With agriculture consuming 70% of the world's freshwater, and climate change intensifying water scarcity, innovative solutions are paramount.

Our research institute is at the forefront of this challenge, driving advancements in water management and irrigation to ensure global food security.

Addressing Critical Needs

We are tackling the dual challenge of improving agricultural water efficiency and developing sustainable alternative water sources. Our research focuses on:

  • Precision Irrigation Technologies: Developing and implementing advanced irrigation strategies like drip irrigation and smart irrigation scheduling, leveraging sensor networks, remote sensing, and data-driven models to optimize water use.

  • Expanding Water Resources: Investigating and deploying alternative water sources, including brackish groundwater, recycled wastewater, and desalinated water, while carefully assessing and mitigating potential risks.

  • Protecting Water Quality: Conducting rigorous research on the environmental impacts of irrigation, monitoring groundwater contamination, and developing remediation methods for contaminated soils and aquifers.

Driving Innovation for Sustainable Agriculture

Our scientists are dedicated to:

  • Understanding Crop Water Requirements: Studying crop water use, transpiration, and the impact of water quality on plant growth, to develop climate-adaptive agricultural practices.

  • Developing Advanced Irrigation Tools: Creating data-driven agricultural technologies, precision irrigation systems, and crop models to improve irrigation planning and scheduling.

  • Advancing Water Resource Management: Investigating managed aquifer recharge, rainwater harvesting, and the flow and transport of water and solutes in the subsurface.

Our Commitment to Food Security

By driving innovation in water management and irrigation, our institute is playing a critical role in safeguarding global food security. We are committed to providing the knowledge and tools necessary to ensure a sustainable and resilient agricultural future.
